… in Wilderness

Beejuice Café – is a lovely café housed in the original Wilderness train station. It’s just a stone’s throw from the beach, so is the ideal place to stop for coffee after an early morning walk. They serve delicious breakfasts, but also a wide range of meals and tapas for lunch and dinner.imgres
Friday night is curry night and Sunday serves up roast lamb. Book early, because it’s popular!

(If you’re walking from the village, just go through the underpass by the garage, cross the railway line (it’s no longer in use) and you’ll see the café a little further along on the opposite platform.)

The Blue Olive – is a great meeting place for the young and young at heart. Fairy lights adorn the decking area where seating is tucked around the milkwood trees.

Whether you’re looking for cocktails, live music on a Friday night, or great food, The Blue Olive won’t disappoint. There’s so much to choose from, but we love the range of burgers – and if you’ve spent the afternoon on the beach and feel like a cold beer and a snack, there’s a whole range of tapas to choose from. Last time we ordered the garlic roll and olive tapenade, which was delicious.

flavorFlava – is a small cafe/restaurant located next to the Girls restaurant.
They serve a wide range of food from gourmet burgers to artisan sandwiches, all at reasonable prices. The food is beautifully prepared and presented, and it really is delicious. Sit inside the cosy dining area and relax with your afternoon coffee and newspaper, or sit on the front stoep or the upstairs deck and soak up the sun. The food is great and the setting manages to be cosy while being well positioned to enjoy the hustle and bustle of Wilderness Village.

The Girls
Don’t be fooled by the location of this restaurant (it’s tucked away behind the petrol station!) as appearances are most definitely deceptive in this case.
The Girls Restaurant has twice won awards for best casual dining in the Garden Route and they’ve received numerous other awards for their restaurant.
The food is fresh, locally sourced where possible and they pride themselves on being distinctly different. Unusual flavours and a warm African vibe help make this restaurant stand out in the crowd.

Locals - Milkwood Village

Milkwood Village
If you’re visiting Wilderness over a weekend and looking for something to do on a Friday evening then head straight to Milkwood Village for the regular Friday Night market. You can enjoy live music while browsing the market stalls and sampling the food on offer; buy a delicious Shwarma roll from one of the stalls and eat while you wander, then head to Peter’s Pancake stall for pudding.
If you’d rather sit and relax while enjoying your food then the Royal Siam Thai Restaurant serves fresh, authentic Thai food which you can enjoy while listening to the buzz of the market. Alternatively head to Locals for a snack and a beer while watching the market from your table on the deck.

Pick a seat in the spacious outdoor area, or in winter sit yourself inside, where the large pizza oven will help to keep you warm. Delicious pizzas and pastas, friendly service and Claudio, the owner, will always greet you with a smile.

Front-DaySalinas Beach Restaurant
Salinas is a relative newcomer to Wilderness but is fast becoming a favourite for its food and cocktails and also because of its spectacular setting. If you’re in Wilderness then it’s definitely worth stopping off at Salinas for lunch, dinner or sunset cocktails on the deck.
The restaurant is built in the dunes and overlooks the ocean, so the views are something very special. In their own words, “if we were any closer to the sea we’d be in it”. There’s also a passenger lift which accommodates wheelchairs, so everyone can enjoy sundowners on the deck.
